5Very complete  Nov 23, 2009 By Aggied
This book is very comprehensive, including details on the trail location (even GPS coordinates), length, difficulty, terrain, access fees, exposure (if the trail is shaded or not), parking, etc. General area and detail maps are included as well. In addition, the trail itself is described as someone walking on it would, with landmarks or things to look for, where to turn, etc. Interesting facts round up the text. Another thing I found quite useful is the Hiking Recommendations section where the trails are classified by distance, difficulty, solitude, elevation change, bird-watching, hikes for kids, pets, runners, wheel-chair accessible,... you name it! About 15 of the 60 hikes are located in the heart of Houston, in local parks or along centric creeks, rivers, and bayous. The rest of the trails expand from Huntsville to the north, Freeport to the south, and Galveston to the east.

4Good Information, Some Redundancies, Terrible Binding  Dec 06, 2009 By G in H-Town "Restless, Dexterous, Primed"
The book has good ideas for Houston area hikes. It will save you some internet research and give you some ideas you could never have come up with. Some of the hikes repeat information over and over for similar areas. I don't need to read the same summary of Huntsville State Park 5 times. The binding is very poor and pages will come loose pretty easily. Good local content though.

5Busy mom with 2 kids  Feb 25, 2008 By R. Garza
I wanted a book to refer to easily so that I could take my kids on hikes nearby without having to do the research myself. This book is exactly what I was looking for! There is a good grid/search list in the front of the book in order to help you narrow down what hikes apply to what you are looking for. Excellent book for someone who doesn't have the time to do the research on your own.

5Better than having a GPS on you!  Apr 04, 2011 By bluebonnet22
Better than having a GPS on you! The book is very informative and easy to follow. I will definitely get plenty of use out of it.

4Hikes and such  Nov 07, 2010 By lococarlosblizz
The book is nice, including many hikes within the loop. Could use more pictures and less repetition of info. Huntsville in NOT within 60 miles of Houston, where some of the best hikes are listed.. Its a good book.
